Radon Testing
Radon gas occurs naturally. It forms when uranium breaks down to radium, which in turn breaks down to form radon. As radon decays, it releases radioactive byproducts that are inhaled and can cause lung cancer. Radon-related lung cancers are responsible foran estimated 21,000 deaths annually in the United States. Over the years we have found that 1 in 4 homes we have inspected have had higher than normal levels of radon.
Lung Cancer: Radon is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas that causes lung cancer. Radon can build up to dangerous levels inside homes, schools and other buildings. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, after smoking. (http://www.lung.org/our-initiatives/healthy-air/indoor/indoor-air-pollutants/radon.html).
Testing Device: We use The Model 1027 continuous radon monitor from (Sun Nuclear). The technology employed in the Model 1027 has been used commercially since 1986. The Sun Nuclear Corporation, Model 1027 is classified as a Continuous Radon Monitor (CRM) testing device, is US EPA verified, NEHA-NRPP listed and evaluated and approved by the NRSB for use in real estate transaction testing. The testing period is a minimum of 48 hours and since the equipment is electronic the results are downloaded and printed immediately at the property. Our equipment is calibrated every year by Sun Nuclear Corporation.
